If you want to succeed in the world of poker, whether it’s online or in the nearby casino you should give a good deal of your time and attention to the subject of bankroll management. Notice that this discussion is not about money management! There is a good reason for using the term “bankroll” rather than the word “money.”

Some experts in the theories of gambling have written that you are fooling yourself if you believe you can be successful in gambling with a program of money management. It is necessary to have a bankroll – a dedicated amount of money set aside for poker, horse-racing, casino play etc. This money should never be mixed with income that is used for living expenses and investments.

Unfortunately, many online players don’t have a good system for maintaining and tracking their poker bankroll. They might have a general idea of what they have put into online accounts and some foggy idea of how much they have won or lost but they don’t really track the movement of money into, through and out of a bankroll account.
